In Wyoming, on an Indian reservation called Wind River, local gamekeeper Cory Lambert finds the mutilated corpse of a girl. The main character, who just recently joined the FBI, is completely unaware of the specifics of the area and local customs, so she takes a hunter from the Department of Fishing and Hunting as an assistant, hoping to find the killers.
