Three families, Ukrainian, Polish, and Jewish, survived the oppression by the Germans during the war and later by the authorities of the Soviet Union. In this situation, the first family hosts children who have lost their parents. One girl tries to give the others hope through a folk song, Shchedryk (Carol of the Bells). The movie can be seen in sign language.
