The film is based on true events about a special FBI operation carried out in the late 70’s – early 80’s called Abscam. Its original task was to investigate trafficking of stolen goods. The FBI planned to infiltrate the agents into the criminal environment under the guise of contact men who buy stolen masterpieces for wealthy collectors from the Middle East.
