The action takes place in 1876 when Sheriff Pulsifer is killed in a gunfight with notorious bandits. He gets into the R.I.P.D. after his death, and soon the hero is given a chance to return to the world of people. The man has to save humankind from the evil that escaped from hell in Red Creek, so revenge is put on the back burner.
