The action takes place in Berlin in 1933. Nine-year-old Anna goes to school and leads an ordinary life with her parents, but soon everything changes when she and her family are forced to leave their hometown because of the Nazis. She has been a refugee for two years, but a plush pink rabbit left at home keeps coming to mind.
