The protagonist of the series is a talented surgeon, Dr. John Tackeri, engaged in medical practice in one of hospitals of New York. Hospital authorities and its staff are trying to keep pace with new developments and introduce them into life. But still, modern ways of treatment are far away, since John lives at a time when people are taken to a hospital in a horse drawn carriage.
