In the late 1980s, no one could imagine an all-girls team at a prestigious regatta. What was needed was a heroine who would defy stereotypes - and British woman Tracey Edwards was it. In 1989, she led a gang of 12 like-minded women on a round-the-world race on the yacht Maiden, proving that the thirst for adventure can be the fuel of a person's life regardless of their gender. Thirty years later, the film recounting their adventure was short-listed for an Oscar and conquered the independent American box office.
