Set in 1968, the film follows Major Kukliński as he develops military exercises for the Warsaw Pact nations. He realizes that the Soviet Union could use the operation as a pretext to launch an attack on NATO and Western Europe. Faced with no other option, the West might retaliate with a nuclear strike on Poland.
