Surviving the Asteroid
Surviving the Asteroid
The 2023 documentary Surviving the Asteroid begins with the story of an asteroid about 14 kilometers in diameter that struck Earth over 60 million years ago. The impact led to the extinction of approximately 75% of all animal species, including dinosaurs. At the time, no animal heavier than 500 grams survived.
The film shows how life eventually returned to a planet covered in debris and ash. Paleontologist Tyler Lyson and his team uncover valuable evidence of regeneration and evolution in Colorado. This took place over the first million years after the asteroid impact. Within a few million years, chaos gave way to a new era.
Surviving the Asteroid, a joint production by French and British documentarians, was produced by Pernel Media—a company included in the Realscreen Global 100 list since 2019 and winner of numerous festival awards. It is also a member of PACT and USPA. Directed by Thomas Sirotto, who won the Kieslowski Prize in France for his short film Hiromi.
Produced by Samuel Kissous, known for the documentary The Prague Trial, 1952. The team also included Terselin Kirtley, who contributed to the Oscar-winning animated film Ratatouille, which received over 65 awards and 100 nominations.
