Eddington (2025) is a contemporary Western black comedy directed by Ari Aster. Set in New Mexico in May 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic, the film centers on a clash between two powerful figures: the ambitious sheriff Joe Cross and the town’s mayor, Ted Garcia.

Their first confrontation unfolds against the backdrop of lockdowns and mask mandates. Soon after, the mayor announces an ambitious project to build an AI-powered data center. The town’s chief lawman opposes the initiative and decides to enter the mayoral race himself. The struggle for power quickly spirals into political chaos, radically transforming life in Eddington.

The film stars Academy Award winners Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, alongside Pedro Pascal, a multiple Primetime Emmy nominee. Ari Aster, whose work has earned more than fifteen awards, directed Eddington from his own screenplay and received a nomination for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
