Aladeen is the despotic ruler of the oil-rich African nation of Wadiya. He is willing to go to any lengths to keep democracy out of his domain. During a visit to the U.S. for a UN meeting, the dictator is kidnapped and replaced by an obedient look-alike. Stranded on the streets of New York without power or money, Aladeen is forced to adapt to the life of an ordinary person.
