Defense of Freedom
Defense of Freedom
Defense of Freedom (2025) is a documentary series directed by Tetyana Suchkova-Ladik and Vladyslav Vasyliev. The screenplay was written by Tetyana Suchkova-Ladik. The project explores the resilience of the Ukrainian people during the full-scale invasion.
The story follows ordinary civilians and foreign journalists. Each episode highlights the courage of those documenting war crimes and fighting for Ukraine’s independence. Participants share their memories of the front line, evacuation, and preserving their humanity in the face of war. Soldiers and civilians unite in pursuit of a common goal. Vast defensive fortifications stand as enduring witnesses to the country's resistance. Defense of Freedom features authentic wartime footage, showing people fighting for far more than their own territory. Their ultimate mission is to defend the values and freedom of the civilized world.
The production features real soldiers, volunteers, and international correspondents. Cinematographer Evgeniy Ladik carried out extensive filming along the front line. Composer Herman Lazebnyi created the original musical score, while producer Olena Nemish coordinated the team’s work in extreme conditions. The creative team combines traditional documentary testimony with carefully staged reenactments. The project's distinctive approach lies in blending firsthand accounts with a contemporary visual style. Through these stories, the filmmakers examine the enduring strength of the human spirit and the meaning of inner freedom.
