The events of the film Blazing Saddles unfold in the Wild West. A major railroad company plans to lay a new line bypassing the desert. The goal seems noble enough — it would make travel easier for residents of several nearby villages. However, before construction can begin, the town of Rock Ridge must be demolished.

The people of Rock Ridge try to resist the governor’s decision. Yet it soon becomes clear that ordinary citizens have no real power to influence the situation. The corporation has already made all the necessary arrangements with local authorities. What they didn’t anticipate, however, is that the townspeople would fight to the very end to protect their homes. The confrontation quickly escalates into an armed conflict. After the sheriff is killed, the cunning mayor strikes a deal with regional officials to appoint a Black sheriff — naively assuming that the townsfolk will rebel against their new lawman.

The comedic Western Blazing Saddles was directed by the legendary actor, screenwriter, and producer Mel Brooks. The rights to the film were acquired by Warner Bros. Pictures. When the pilot version was shown to studio executives, not a single person laughed — they considered the film a failure. But when it was screened for regular employees, the audience roared with laughter. After that, the project was approved and went on to become a hit with the general public.
