Brief encounters - that is all that is left to Valentina, who occupies a solid position in the district committee, and to Maxim, the freedom-loving geologist, who is tired of the city rush. But in a roadside cafe Max meets Nadia. Nadia gets fascinated by Maxim. When he tells her that he can help her to get the work in the eatery, she rushes to find him. Waiting for Maxim, Nadia finds a housekeeping job at Valentina Ivanovna’s house. But when Nadia hears their rare phone conversations with Maxim and gets more familiar with Valentina, she realizes that she has no rights to interfere the other people's happiness.
